II. Characteristics

The following characteristics are common in learning environments:

• Mobile computers are integrated into all aspects of the students' curriculum
• All incoming students will be carrying laptops
• The existing IT staff must support 100's and 1000's of computer users
• There is an extremely high amount of end users for each support personnel
• Data files are frequently shared among users
• The potential for software image corruption can be high when students and faculty install and customize applications
